I have been trying to get my widow’s benefits from my husband’s social security since end of july 2007. Because my name is nowhere in their computer, proving that I called to see if I qualified, ( because when I did call, I was told that I could not receive benefits until his first wife died. That was told to me by our local office in Campbellsville Kentucky. So, I thought they new what they were talking about, which now I find out is untrue. I was told to call back when she died and then I could apply. I should have been given an appointment to speak to someone which I wasn’t. My name is not in the computer because no appointment was made. I f I ahd been told right from the start, I would have been drawing a check beginning August of last Year. Because they told me wrong I am being told with no proof of my name in their computer, no call was made. Which it was and again in January of 2008. Which then I was told the same thing in January of ‘08. It is my word against their’s and now I see who is right and who is wrong. I contacted my congressman in Frankfort and they sent a letter. WHen I received the response , from Meredith, (local office employee who did my application) she tole them I only stated that I had called after she made the statement if only you had called in January. THat is a lie. I did call 2 times. No one will give me the courtesy of speaking to me from the congress side. I just need to tell them that this is not right. I have appealed and through this appeal I ahve been lied to. I was told the appeal would be handled in Campbellsville and when I spoke the the local office, their response to me was it had to be sent off to another office. I was also asked if I really wanted to continue the appeal. My response was OF COURSE. I need to speak to someone who knows about Social Security but not the local office. Can you help me. My work number is 270-465-3568. My home phone is 270-465-7630 after 6:30. I feel like I am getting the run around. My husband and I worked hard all our lives. I don’t appreciate being called a lier. I did what I was supposed to do and I was lied to. THe only thing is they don’t want to admit they made a mistake so I am having to pay the penalty. Someone please call me so I can explain what is going on and to let me know what I need to do.
    Thank you for your time.
    Lynn A. Mackie
